How to Request a Quote
for Investment Casting
The information provided in your
request for quote is critical to your ability to make a meaningful comparative
evaluation of competing quotes.
If important information is missing, different foundries may base their quotes
on different assumptions. If you select the lowest quote and find out later
that it was lower because of these different assumptions, you may have to add
details to the purchase order later on. The foundry may have to increase price,
or, if it lacks certain qualifications, cancel the order, forcing you to waste
time by starting over again.
As a service to you, Hitchiner is supplying this update to help you receive
quotes that are truly comparable. You can include some of this information on
the drawing and some on the request for quote:

Foundry's sales representative or company address

Request for quote number

Sample delivery quantity and date

Quantity of parts desired, and ultimate annual production

Production delivery quantity and dates, after sample approval

Target price for production

Ship-to address

Bill-to address

Hard copy of drawing or electronic CAD file for the part (can be sent over the
internet. See your Hitchiner representative for instructions and passwords)

Alloy, or alloys, with appropriate material specification

Surface finish

Critical dimensions that must be machined

Machining reference points (desired, but not essential)

Any and all foundry-specific exceptions to the quote package
All of the above information and any allowed exceptions and modifications,
along with the tooling and piece prices must be on the purchase order issued to
the successful vendor.
