The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics data on salaries of high school graduates shows that full-time workers over the age of 25 with a high school diploma make an average of $37,000 a year. However, when high school graduates complete well-designed job training programs, they can make up to twice that in the specialized and high-tech manufacturing industries. Manufacturing jobs are growing too. The U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics also recently reported that manufacturing jobs are increasing at the fastest rate in 23 years.

Local training opportunities

Hitchiner Manufacturing has been working with local high schools and colleges to help fill key technical roles and retrain workers from other fields who want a new career in manufacturing. One program is aimed at helping high school students launch their careers after graduation with a training program created in partnership with the Manchester nonprofit MY TURN and Nashua Community College. In 2018, the first year the program was up and running, nine students completed the program were offered entry-level positions working at Hitchiner in the wax injection, shell building, foundry and post-cast departments at our Milford campus.

Students learned from Hitchiner employees and guest speaker throughout the four-week program, gaining knowledge on not only technical skills, but valuable job skills as well, such as financial literacy, resume writing, and communication skills. We've got great feedback from the students who have completed the program. They especially liked having that extra training before graduation and they felt they had learned key skills and information to prepare them for a long-term career.

Through a partnership with Manchester Community College, Hitchiner is also providing tuition assistance to our shop floor employees so they can gain the skills needed to advance into positions that require the technical ability to program and operate robotic equipment. Hitchiner has other tuition assistance programs available for qualified employees as part of our overall benefits package, including the full-time employee tuition assistance program and direct learning partnerships with Manchester Community College, Nashua Community College and Keene State College.
